Our Causes

It Starts With the Will to Make a Difference

Kids Running

Children

Children are our future and the Journal Children's Charity specifically cares for the children of your deceased members.

These Children can be supported throughout their childhood and with their education.

The Charity can support any child who needs support through difficult times with a range of Grants.

Senior Citizen Exercise Class

Elderly Members & their Widows

The Comprehensive Trust & War Memorial Charities can support elderly Members and their Widows with regulars grants payments.

Age brings personal challenges to deal with including Personal Finances and Health.

Often following the loss of a husband or partner the elderly are often left financially worse off.

These Charities can provide Annuities & Grants to support the elderly Members of the GLE and their Widows at a time when they can be most vulnerable.

They can also be supported in times of economic stress.

Poverty

One of our goals is to ensure that the most vulnerable and at-risk groups from within the membership are supported with Grants.

Every assistance will be given to aid the relief of poverty amongst your Members and their Families.

Additional support can be provided during periods of economic stress, to ensure that families can feed themselves and heat their homes.

No one in modern society should be left so vulnerable that they cannot feed themselves or heat their homes.

Health

The promotion of health within our societies is a daily struggle.

The Comprehensive Trust provides convalescent support to your members and their dependents.

Health issues increase with age and there are many situations that see a sick partner being looked after at home by either their husband or wife.

Accidents occur in every walk of life, at home, at work and in numerous other settings.

The Comprehensive Trust can provide support for two types of convalescence.

Respite:

Where some level of care is required

Recovery:

With a short stay in a facility that will benefit your recovery.

Disability & Illness

Disability

The effects that a Disability or Illness has on a persons life can be enormous.

People that live with a Disability from birth show amazing courage and strength to get on with their life, whilst those that have a disability thrust upon them through an Illness or Injury find their lives changed forever.

The CTF Charity will provide Disability Support Grants to assist with an individuals living costs.

Illness

No-one can foresee a period of illness.

For many recovery will require just a few days rest, for other there will be a long road to recovery.

The effects of a long period of illness are especially felt where the patient has had to take an extend period of leave from their employment.

The CTF recognises that these periods can be especially difficult for families, especially where entitlement to sick pay is through SSP or at a reduced salary.

The CTF Charity will support Members and their Dependents through the first 26 weeks of an illness, with a Sickness Support Grant payable after the first 28 days.

Education

Traditionally Education Grants have been limited to just a few applicants, however changes to the grants system to make all grants inclusive has opened up Education Grants for all members and dependents.

These Grants can be used to support a child with an educational requirement  (incl. equipment, educational trips, educational support).

They can also be used for personal development (education courses, college courses etc).

Message from the Charity Trustees

All Charities face challenges, the Charity Trustees continue to work tirelessly with the support of their Legal Team and the Charity Commission ensure that the Charities governance and safeguarding requirements are met.

The Charity Trustees will continue to safeguard the Charities, ensuring that they are Administered correctly.

Charities are separate entities in Law and the Assets of the Charities are under the custodianship of the "official custodian for charities" at the Charity Commission.

Failings with the Administration of Charity Grant Applications, saw the application process change to "Direct Application" with the Charities Trustees.

All Grant Applications are now by Direct Application only.

The range of grants available has been increased, and now include Emergency & Ad Hoc Grants, Sickness & disability grants, and Educational Grants for all.

Further enhancements to grants will introduced where a need exists.

All Grants are INCLUSIVE and are open to all members and their dependents.

The Charities will continue to support the needy, sharing a common goal:

to Help the Members and their families who were in need.

School Application

Grant Applications

The new Direct Application Process has been implemented and applications have been received.

The Charities are here to support the RAOB GLE members & their dependents who are in need of help, that are suffering hardship or who have a desire to learn.

The new Direct Application Process aims to deliver a first class level of support to anyone who needs help.

Further changes to the Grants system will be introduced where necessary to ensure that the charities remain at the forefront of support.

Grants will be adapted where needs change.

It is important for the membership to know that all Grants are inclusive, and that the criteria for assessing grant applications has changed.

By working together we can ensure that no member or dependent who is in need of support suffers because help was not available.

Fill in everything that you can.

If there is any information that you can't complete return the form with a covering letter explaining why.

(an incomplete form will not debar the application from consideration)

3.         Return the form (and letter/supporting info) to the Charity Trustees.

4.         All being well confirmation of an award should be achieved in under 2 weeks.

(you will be contacted should the Charity Trustees need to

discuss the application)

5.         Once a decision has been made, you will receive written confirmation.

Note:

You no longer need the support of your Lodge, PGL or the GLE to apply for a Charity Grant as all Grants are by Direct Application.

As we have already stated, all grants will be inclusive and not for the chosen few.

For this reason we have altered the requirements for awarding a Grant.
